The Biomedical Networking Research Center of Bioengineering, Biomaterials and Nanomedicine (CIBER-BBN) is one of the 11 thematic areas of CIBER. CIBER groups some of the main Spanish research groups (more than 400) in biomedicine, located in more than 100 institutions distributed around Spain.

ABOUT

CIBER-BBN’s research program is organized in three different scientific areas and six strategic lines. The area of Bioengineering consists of the strategic lines of Multimodal Diagnosis and Smart Devices, the area of Biomaterials of the lines of Advanced Therapies and Implants, while the area of Nanomedicine includes the strategic lines of Therapeutic Nanoconjugates and Biosensors.
CIBER -BBN research groups are continuously evaluated under the light of scientific excellence by using markers such as their number of publications (>500 per year), but also for their activities in obtaining financing in competitive calls, the transfer of technology and their relations with the private sector. During its rather short life, CIBER-BBN was awarded over 150 grants and raised over € 200 millions in competitive calls (HEALTH, NMP, PEOPLE, ERA- NET EuroNanoMed and ERC Starting and Advanced Grants), which gives an idea of the enormous potential of the research teams it comprises.
CIBER-BBN manages also NANBIOSIS (Infrastructure for the Production and Characterization of Biomaterials, Nanomaterials and Systems in Biomedicine), which has been recognized as an Unique Scientific-Technological Infrastructure (ICTS) by the Spanish Government.
