The EU-Japan Centre for Industrial Cooperation launched on 15 February 2016 the “EU-Japan Technology Transfer Helpdesk” (www.eu-jp-tthelpdesk.eu), a new service aimed at supporting EU-Japan technology searching and technology transfer business.
The launching of the service was preceded by a survey resulting in a Report on: “An Assessment of the opportunities, and demands related to Japan-EU technology transfer services”.
The consultation and the project in its entirety were triggered by the results of a prior study conducted between 2014 and 2015 (http://www.eu-japan.eu/sites/eu-japan.eu/files/TechnologyTransfer_final.pdf)
The analysis of the gathered data concludes that:
– ICT, engineering, physical sciences and life sciences are the most interesting Japanese technology transfer areas for EU SMEs;
– the most likely obstacles when trying to negotiate a technology transfer contract with a Japanese entity would be related to the language barriers and cultural differences;
