If you are a European startup or a small and medium enterprise (SME), the EU-Japan Centre for Industrial Cooperation would like to draw your attention to the following opportunity to meet potential corporate partners in Japan at the occasion of the Innovation Leaders’ Summit (“ILS”) in October 2018, link.
- Date: Oct.22-24, 2018
- Venue: Toranomon Hills (Tokyo, Japan)
- Number of expected participating companies: 100 major corporations, 500 startups
- Previous ILS editions focused on technologies mentioned in annex 1. The technological interest expressed by large corporations is presented in annex 2.
ILS was established in 2014 with support from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan (METI). Last year edition of ILS attracted more than 6,000 participants. The main feature is the “Power Matching” which provides one-on-one innovation meetings between major corporations and startups/SMEs. The number of one-on-one meetings between 100+ major corporations and 400+ startups reached 2272 in the past edition of ILS. As a result, ILS facilitated 866 new innovation deals. ILS arranged 100+ startup pitches, 200+ startup shows, 30+ leaders sessions, and 2+1 exclusive networking parties (more info in the attached pamphlet).
Participation in ILS is only based on invitation, following the selection of submitted expressions of interest. Interested applicants should meet the following requirements, and be able to cover the travel and accommodation expenses.
Requirements to be selected:
- Companies that possess ingenious technologies and unique business models and are expected to achieve high growth. (Investment round is irrelevant; Companies not yet established are also targets)
- Companies capable of proposing business alliances, such as production, sales and technical alliances, to major corporations. (Startups aiming at sales only, and not at alliances are not eligible. Consulting business startups are not eligible)
- Companies must be represented by a “CXO” (such as CEO or COO) or country branch manager (In addition to the company representative, one more attendee can participate in the Power-Matching sessions.
Beside the general event, there will a “Special matching program for foreign companies only” (scheduled for October 24), separately from the power-matching. In this case, startups participating in this program can suggest the company they wish to meet with before the application deadline and check the result, and then judge whether to apply for the Power-Matching or not.
- The deadline to express your interest in the Power-Matching with Special program for foreign companies is July 20, 2018.
- The deadline to express your interest in the Power-Matching only is August 15, 2018.
- The deadline to register, if invited by ILS, is August 24, 2018.
If interested, please send your expression of interest to Luca Escoffier luca.escoffier@eu-japan.gr.jp, project manager of the Technology Transfer Helpdesk at the EU-Japan Centre.
